Our entry into water based paint was 11 years ago. We had a potential customer ask if we could develop a water base product for his vacuum coater, and the wish list was long. Dr. Gang Hu (Superior Finishes Technical Director) was persistent in his development, determined to achieve the physical properties laid out by the client, and successfully completed the project.
Jea Guertin (President) wants you to know that we market the water base coatings all the way down to, in some cases, zero VOC. Solid wood, veneers, composite, MDF, straw board, we've coated them all.
JP Guertin (Superior Finishes V.P. Marketing) works closely with the equipment suppliers, especially when called in to customize a product going through a brand new paint line that was put in for water.
We've been able to help customers get Green Guard approvals with their unique products.
We've successfully converted a custom coater on composite material from solvent base to water base, taking them from 3 coats down to 2 coats and saving the customer well over 20% of paint volume. The custom coater had been waiting 2 ½ years for his previous paint suppliers to formulate a product; Superior Finishes had it formulated and tested in less than 3 months.
In most cases,the physical properties are better in their water base than conventional solvent base. JP says that they have just been licensed for *Kynar Aquatec® water base PVDF fluropolymer. It is formulated into coatings for outdoor use that gives 10 to 20 years and more in gloss and color retention.

Our coatings are user friendly for application offering higher sag and faster dry times with high build. Able to airless spray with little to no solvent popping, and in most cases, all this for less cost.
Superior Finishes Inc. offer *Kynar Aquatec® based coatings for systems that allow a lower gloss. The Sequoia® based on Kynar Aquatec® PVDF fluoropolymer offers 5 times the durability with I.R. reflective pigments that would be ideal for military use. Because it is based on a PVDF fluoropolymer it also is self cleaning, mold and mildew resistant.
One agricultural customer needed a DTM, high reverse impact, fade resistant for two seasons in the dealer's yard, 3.5 mil dry over shot blast without solvent popping at 55 volume solids. Superior Finishes has been selling this coating for 4 years now.
